INTERVIEW: María Thelma Smáradóttir

If you thought being stuck in self-isolation at home was hard work then imagine being stuck out in the Arctic with no means of rescue? That’s what happened to Maria’s character in the Netflix movie ‘Arctic’ – she did have someone to keep her company though!

You co-star with the legendary actor Mads Mikkelsen in your movie debut – what was it like working with him?

It was great. He’s very down to earth and easy going.

He had described the shoot as one of the most testing in his career – were the conditions hard to work in? Where in Iceland did you film the movie?

The movie was shot in Nesjavellir and it was quite hard to shoot the movie because of the weather. The weather kept changing and it was freezing cold.

What do you love most about the country?

The water, nature, fresh air and the fact that its very safe to live in Iceland.

What have you been listening to, reading, or watching recently – any great recommendations?

I highly recommend Tiger King, Vise and Unorthodox on Netflix!

Finally, what is your top tip of the day?

Be kind.

You can catch Arctic now on Netflix – it is certainly worth a watch – and to keep up to date with the lovely MARÍA THELMA you can follow her on Instagram here : @mariathelma93
