INTERVIEW: George Baines

This week we go to meet bright young thing George Baines…

Who are you?

My name is George Baines, originally from Silverstone in Northants & currently based in Brighton.

What do you do?

I’m primarily a songwriter and singer, but also more recently a producer too. At the moment i’m finishing studying the 3rd year of my degree in songwriting at BIMM in Brighton, which I’ve loved a lot.

What are you currently working on?

I’ve just released my new 7-track contemporary folk project, Something Deeper, which has taken me the last year to put together!

I recorded the basis for the tracks in my mate’s cottage in the Peak District, then finished the project off in Brighton before getting it mastered at Abbey Road Studios.

So at the moment I’m still trying to get as many people as possible to listen to the project & share it with their friends etc. The goal is to get onto a few folky playlists.. I’d love to be able to play shows to people who know the tunes.

What are you currently enjoying (tv shows, movies, podcasts, ice cream?)

I’m big into films & there have been some bangers out this year, Green Book, The Favourite to name a couple! Looking forward to End Game too, of course.

Music-wise I’ve been on the new James Blake album for a while, along with the Big Red Machine album. Also, Christian Lee Hutson’s “Northsiders” is my a new favourite tune, definitely check that out if you’re not familiar with it yet.

Ice cream: peanut, pistachio, anything controversial.

What is your advice for today?

Do what you’re doing for yourself, not to impress others.

Work towards your own dream, not somebody else’s (unless you don’t have a dream, then just get rich as fuck basically).

We love George’s work and his album is beautiful piece of music making. You can have a listen to it below along with keeping up to dates with George’s future projects and music on the links below!
