INTERVIEW: Christian Elsnef from Nanook

This week wee find out more about a member of Nanook, a band all the way from Greenland!

Who are you?

Well, I’m Christian Elsner from the band Nanook (https://www.facebook.com/NanookOfficialFanclub/).

What do you do?

We are a Greenlandic band,

has released 4 studio albums and 2 best of-albums in Scandinavia and Japan. We’ve been around for 10 years now and is a band that tours around the world though only singing in Greenlandic – a language that approx. 55.000 people in the world speak.

We tour a lot in Greenland and overseas; Japan, Taiwan, Canada, US (including Alaska), Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland & Faroe Islands.

Besides being a musician I work in a music store in Nuuk (capital in Greenland) called Atlantic Music ApS (www.atlanticmusic.gl), where we produce, sell and distribute music and musical instruments.

What are you currently enjoying?

At the moment I really like to listen to Blonde Redhead and Sigur Rós – the darker albums with a melancholic mood – maybe because of the dark winter here. It suits me quite well without being sad.

Not long ago I just got back from The Maldives. It was a great trip and I got to dive with Sea Turtles and stingrays. Very cool, and the island me and my brother stayed at was just perfect – like paradise. I really like football as well and support FC Barcelona, so I’m gonna watch a lot of that as well and hope to go Spain and experience El Clasico again (went there a few years ago) later this year or the next. I love to travel and see new places and next week I’m going to Qaanaaq with is near the north pole in North Greenland. We are performing some acoustics shows up there and it’s dark 24/7 up there in the wintertime so it’ll be quite different to experience.

Hopefully I’ll get to do some dogsledging that I sometimes do when I visit North Greenland. About movies, I might go and see the latest with Clint Eastwood, The Mule, it runs in the Cinema at the moment. I usually watch Modern Family, just to get some cheap laughs ( I haven’t been out in a while, though we have quite okay bars and venues in Nuuk – maybe this weekend 😉

Today’s best advice?

Don’t quote your life away!
