In this week’s feature we speak to someone who is doing an amazing job for all grassroots rugby clubs across the country. If up you play rugby on the weekends you know the struggle is real when it comes to finding players to make sure your team gets a runout – it is every coaches and skippers nightmare but the Fill Your Boots have been running a great idea to help you out….
Who are you?
My name is Sean Phelan, I created Fill Your Boots but also Rugby player, partner to Freya & Dad to Rocco & Lulu!
What do you do?
By day, I have recently joined a Digital Marketing company. However I created Fill Your Boots, a social media platform to support grassroots rugby clubs by helping them find those extra players in order to make their game happen. FYB has over 850 grassroots rugby clubs from all across the world following our Twitter account. Grassroots rugby clubs need all the support they can get so a tool like FYB can be a great help & potentially be the difference between a game taking place and it being cancelled. Not only for playing the match itself, clubs need games to take place to bring in much needed revenue such as the bar takings, subs etc. We try and support clubs by also promoting any activities they may be taking part in or general advertising for them.
What’s coming up next?
With the Autumn Internationals coming up in November, this is always a busy period for FYB. We aim to help as many clubs as possible during these periods. We are putting together a FYB Barbarians team together for my club Racal Decca RFC’s 60th Anniversary In May 2019. The FYB Barbarians will be raising money for St George’s Hospital in London & we are currently looking for a shirt sponsor.
We are also in the planning stages of putting together a weekly YouTube show full of tries scored in grassroots rugby games during that weekend. This is just another platform to promote our great sport.
Prove people wrong. Lots of people will tell you you can’t do something, for whatever reason, but if you believe in it enough and you have the desire to make it work, it will work! Work hard and the rewards will be awesome! FYB was never meant to work, however, I believed in the concept enough to make it work, and because of it, social media is now my career.
Sean has even helped me out a number time over the years with my club St Francis RFC in West Sussex and it has always been great to meet new faces and help people get that 80minutes of rugby week in and week out. He does an incredible job and is quick and responsive to help anyone out. Find his links below and get supporting him!
